LITCHFIELD — Douglas A. Hersey, 82 of Litchfield, died Sunday, Feb. 12, at his home.

He was born in Waterville, Feb. 14, 1929, son of the late Austin and Mildred Perkins Hersey. He was married to Marie Lavoie.

He was employed most of his life as a truck driver.

Douglas was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed country, bluegrass and gospel music and performed in the 1940s in a country music band and was a promoter of country music. He was inducted as a member of the Maine Country Hall of Fame. Douglas enjoyed animals, especially his cats.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marie of Litchfield; his children, Paul Hersey and wife, Betty, of Lisbon, Lannette Cloutier and husband, Rene, of Turner, Karen Rozecki and husband, Joseph, of Texas, Anne Marie Bosse of Fairfield, Franny Bosse of Oakland, Valerie McLaughlin of Gardiner and Jeannette Mims and husband, Steve, of Augusta; also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Rose Marie Hersey in October 2003.
