CSA fair

FARMINGTON — The Winter Farmers market has announced a CSA fair from 9 to noon Saturday, Feb. 25, in the West Farmington Grange Hall.

Support local agriculture by visiting area farmers and learning about the many CSA opportunities available in Western Maine.

Learn what “CSA” stands for, how they work, why they’re a great way for people to support local agriculture and what shares are available for the coming season.

Musical guest “The Burnt Beard Band” will provide live entertainment. A number of area farmers will offer a plethora of locally produced products for sale.

Cabin Fever supper

NEW VINEYARD — New Vineyard Public Library will hold its sixth annual Cabin Fever Supper on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Smith Hall. The supper will be from 5 to 7 p.m. and music from 6 to 8 p.m.

Historical society

TEMPLE — The Temple Historical Society will have a “Show and Tell” Program on Monday, Feb. 27, at the Temple Town Hall at 6:30 p.m following a brief meeting.

Did you purchase something at a yard sale last summer, or have an unusual family gizmo handed down or a gadget that hasn’t been used in a hundred years? Just try to stump everyone or bring something you need help identifying.

Refreshments will be served. The public is invited. The most popular item (by vote) will win the owner a Temple Historical Society 2012 Calendar, which features extant farms of Temple.

Corned beef supper

INDUSTRY — A corned beef supper will be held starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Industry Town Hall. Menu also includes potatoes, carrots, cabbage, baked beans, breads, desserts and beverages. Adults are $8 and children under 10 are $4. Benefits the Progressive Club for community projects.

A+E Hill Country

SALEM — A+E Hill Country Music will return to the Salem Community Building on Sunday, March 4, at 1:30 p.m. Refreshments will be on sale and a donation box will be at the door. Hosted by the Salem Pine Tree Club.

Friendship Squares

WILTON — Friendship Squares will host a class/mainstream/plus square dance on Sunday, March 4, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Cushing School. The caller will be Walt Bull and the cuer, Carol Stewart. All are welcome.

Seniors meetings delayed

LIVERMORE FALLS — Out of respect for their chairwoman, Shirley Couture, the Jay-Livermore Falls Seniors will delay weekly meetings until March 5, at 1 p.m. The group will hold their monthly Beano games, as well as card and other games.

Industry Extension

INDUSTRY — The Industry Extension will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at Shorey Chapel. There will be a cooking program.

Hunger banquet

FARMINGTON — The Catholic Campus Ministry will put on a Hunger Banquet on Sunday, March 11, to raise funds for local hunger relief. Proceeds will benefit the United Way Emergency Food Fund and the Clearwater Food Pantry in Industry.

This interactive social awareness event will begin at 5 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Parish Hall, on the corner of Quebec and Middle streets. Tickets can be purchased at Devaney, Doak, & Garrett Bookstore and the Calico Patch in downtown Farmington at $5 a ticket. Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $6.

Stroke, bone screenings

FARMINGTON — Residents living in and around the Farmington community can be screened to reduce their risk of having a stroke or bone fracture. St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will host Life Line Screening on Tuesday, March 13, at 133 Middle St.

Four key points every person needs to know: stroke is the third leading cause of death and a leading cause of permanent disability; 80 percent of stroke victims had no apparent warning signs prior to their stroke; preventive ultrasound screenings can help avoid a stroke; screenings are fast, noninvasive, painless, affordable and convenient.

Screenings identify potential cardiovascular conditions such as blocked arteries and irregular heart rhythm, abdominal aortic aneurysms and hardening of the arteries in the legs, which is a strong predictor of heart disease. A bone density screening to assess osteoporosis risk is also offered and is appropriate for both men and women.
