RUMFORD — The recently formed theater group Paper Moon Players at 49 Franklin hall will hold auditions for “The Odd Couple (Female Version).”

Neil Simon’s makeover of his famous contemporary classic starts with a group of friends playing a weekly game of Trivial Pursuit. They meet at the apartment of Olive Madison, a divorcee who freely admits to being a slob. “I leave a mess when I read a book,” she says.

Late to arrive is Florence Unger, a stickler for details who would try the patience of a saint and who has just become separated from her husband. As life would have it, the slob and the fuss-budget decide to room together  — with hilarious results.

Besides Madison and Unger, other characters include Mickey, a tough cop who’s proud of it; Renee, the gossip; Sylvie, always ready with a wisecrack; Vera, the naive, ditsy member of the group; and Jesus and Manolo, suave yet comical Spanish brothers who live upstairs.

Rumford native Keith A. Grassette is directing the play. Auditions will be at 7 pm. Monday, March 12, at the Mystic Theater at 49 Franklin St.

“The Odd Couple (Female Version)” will be performed May 11-13. For more information, call 369-0129 or email grassette@gwi.
