NORWAY — Stone-Smart American Legion Post No. 82 will meet Wednesday, March 14, at 212 Main St.

There will be a sit-down meal at 6 p.m. with a birthday cake to celebrate the American Legion’s 93rd birthday.

Post Commander Ron Snow will present Bryant Gurney a 50-year certificate as a member of the American Legion.

Snow will also present to Steve Tobin a Blue Star banner with two stars. Tobin has a son and a daughter serving in the armed forces. Tobin’s son is in the Marine Corps and is currently serving his second tour of duty in Afghanistan and his daughter is serving in the Air Force.

The Blue Star banner was used predominately in World War II and Korea for a family to put in their window to let others know they had children serving in the military. This program was eliminated during the Vietnam War but was resurrected following the terrorists attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
