HALLOWELL —The concert begins when a 10-foot cylinder slithers onto the stage and implodes. Before long the audience is playing catch with gigantic inflatable props.

Big, blow-up shapes shimmer, balloon, deflate and bounce in a rainbow of colors.

A red cube takes on a life of its own, rolling, gliding, tumbling in sync to the music, right up to the edge of the stage. The big block teeters dramatically on the brink, quaking and bulging and changing shape, then making a hilarious exit.

Welcome to Fred Garbo’s Inflatable Theater.

On Saturday, April 21, Garbo, known for his pop-action inflatables and dynamic stage presence, will perform Saturday, April 21, at Hall-Dale High School, courtesy of Johnson Hall Performing Arts Center.

Garbo who has invented inflatables with artist/builder George York for more than two decades, was the acrobat inside Barkley the Dog on “Sesame Street” and chief juggler in the musical “Barnum.”

He toured Europe, Hong Kong and Australia with the Obie Award-winning “Foolsfire’ show, with Bob Berky and Michael Moschen; and danced with MOMIX in Brazil.

The fast-paced show will be presented at 3 p.m. at the school at 97 Maple St.
