WILTON — A Jay man died early Saturday morning when he lost control of the car he was driving on Route 156, left the road and was ejected, police said.
When police arrived, they found David Goulette, 44, dead, Wilton Sgt. Richard H. Billian Jr. said in a news release.
The accident occurred at about 12:19 a.m. Billian said Goulette was driving his 2008 Chevy Avalanche south on Route 156 when it veered off the road on a curve just south of Route 2. The Chevy struck a pile of rocks and went airborne into a utility pole, the sergeant said.
The pole was severed, Wilton officer Billie Martin said early Saturday evening.
Goulette was thrown from the demolished car, which came to rest in the roadway, Billian said.
He said the cause of the accident was still under investigation, but “at this time, speed appears to be a factor.”
Martin said alcohol test results, which are routinely conducted in fatal accidents, were pending.
Responders closed the road to traffic for two hours until the scene was cleared, she said.
