JAY — Two local candidates are vying for the first selectman’s position in the June 12 election.

Municipal budgets and the RSU 73 budget validation will also be decided that day for Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls.

Voters in Livermore and Livermore Falls will go to the polls on the same day to elect officials. Polling hours in all three towns will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Jay residents will vote at the Community Building in the lower level of the Spruce Mountain Middle School in Jay.

Livermore residents will vote at the Fire Station. Livermore Falls voters will cast ballots at the Town Office. The only town not voting on a proposed town budget in referendum form will be Livermore.

Absentee ballots will be available in all three towns for the June 12 election on Friday, May 11, at respective town offices.

Jay Town Clerk Ronda Palmer said anyone seeking an absentee ballot for the election after Thursday, June 7, will have to have special circumstances to get one, because of a change in the state election law last year.

In Jay, residents Pearl Cook and Laurence “Larry” Thornton are seeking the three-year position of  first selectman. It is held by Amy Pineau.

Jay Board of Selectmen Chairman Steve McCourt is unopposed for a second, three-year term on the board.

Current Regional School Unit 73 directors Darcie Comstock and Michael Morrell will run uncontested for two, three-year terms.

George Merrill is unopposed for election to a three-year term on the Jay Village Water District Board of Trustees. Roger Couture is uncontested for a three-year term on the North Jay Water District Board of Trustees.

In Livermore, there is a three-way race for a three-year term on the Board of Selectpersons. Chairwoman Grace Jacques is being challenged by newcomers Megan Dion and Rodney Newman.

Selectperson Brenda Merrill is in a four-way race to retain a two-year set on the board. Merrill is contested by residents Peter Castonguay, Timothy Cox and Dennis Lee.

Livermore Treasurer Kurt Schaub is also being challenged for another two-year term in the position. Schaub and Cathy Lee are both seeking the term.

Town Clerk Renda Libby is unopposed in her quest for another two-year term.

RSU 73 Director Tim Madden is also unopposed for a three-year term on the school board.

In Livermore Falls, there are no contested races.

Selectmen Louise Chabot is running for a three-year term and Kenneth Pelletier is seeking a two-year term.

RSU 73 Director Carmen Cullen is unopposed for a three-year term. Director Jackie Knight will run as a write-in candidate for a second, three-year term. No one returned papers for that seat.
