LEWISTON — The University of Southern Maine’s Franco-American Collection will host a special Mother’s Day version of its popular French-language sing-along program at 3 p.m. Friday, May 11, at USM Lewiston-Auburn College, 51 Westminster St., room 170. Wheelchair accessible. Those planning to attend should note that this month’s 3 p.m. starting time is later than normal.

The hour-long session will include traditional French favorites, with a particular focus on the theme of motherhood. Words to all the songs will be provided, so no knowledge of French is required. Participants of all ages are encouraged to attend, and to bring their mothers and memeres.

“Last month’s event was wonderful,” said James Myall, collection coordinator. “We celebrated the 102nd birthday of one of our regular members, and because it was school vacation week some of the families brought their children and grandchildren, so we had multiple generations represented. It’s events like these which keep the culture alive in the community.”

The event is free, and light refreshments will be provided. More information is available by contacting USM’s Franco-American Collection at 753-6545 or [email protected].
