On Saturday, May 12, Stamp Out Hunger, the nation’s largest single-day food drive, will take place. This is the 20th year of this effort, which is hosted by the National Association of Letter Carriers and the U.S. Postal Service and sponsored by AARP, United Way and other organizations.

On May 12, letter carriers across the country will collect nonperishable food donations from their postal customers at the same time as they deliver the mail. They – in some cases with the help of volunteers – will then deliver these donations to a local food bank or pantry.

To donate, food should be left in or near the mailbox, with the flag up.

Volunteers can also help with loading the food bags or delivering donations to a drop-off point or to the local food pantry.

All food gathered is donated to pantries in the immediate area of the donation. In Lewiston-Auburn, food will be donated to the Good Shepherd Food-Bank. Lisbon and Durham donations will be delivered to LACO.  In Livermore, Livermore Falls and Jay, food will be given to Eaton Memorial Church. Donations from Farmington will be delivered to the Care and Share Food Bank, while food collected in Greene will go to the Greene Baptist Church Food Pantry.
