LISBON — Doris M. Stewart, 93, of Lewiston, formerly Farmington,  passed away Saturday, May 12, at the Lamp Residential Care Facility.

She was born Jan 13, 1919, in China, the daughter of Harry B. and Mildred (Patterson) Mitchell. She was a 1936 graduate of Besse High School in Albion and received her bachelor’s degree from Farmington State Normal School (now UMF) in 1939, and her master’s degree from the University of Maine in 1960.

She married J. Harold Stewart in Farmington on Jan. 7, 1943. He died on May 28, 1954. Doris taught school in China, Thorndike, New Vineyard, Lewiston and at the Martel School in Lewiston for 25 years.

She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women’s Society, Mu Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, Honorary Teacher Society, the National and Maine Retired Teachers Associations, Androscoggin County Retired Teacher’s Association, Woman’s Literary Union, Women’s Legislative Council of Maine, Maine Association of Retirees (MAR) and the Robin Dow Senior Citizens.

Doris is survived by her son, Jeffrey B. Stewart of Turner; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, Erwin F. Mitchell.
