AUBURN — Two car crashes in less than an hour sent five people to hospitals Sunday afternoon.

The first crash occurred on Washington Street shortly before 5 p.m. when a man driving a Ford Ranger pickup was headed southbound in the northbound lane and the truck hit a northbound GMC 2500 pickup head on.

The driver of the Ford was taken to an area hospital, as was one person from the second truck. No other details were available Sunday night.

Shortly after emergency crews were toned out on the first crash, a second two-car collision with injuries was reported on Riverside Drive in Auburn, just past Riverside Variety, which is at 794 Riverside Drive.

The second crash involved a Subaru Outback station wagon and a convertible Chrysler PT Cruiser.

Auburn police officer Matt Johnson said the driver of the Subaru, 22-year-old Cierra Raynoso, was traveling southbound on Riverside Drive when she attempted to make a U-turn and her car was hit by the PT Cruiser driven by Jessica Gray, 24, of Gray.

Johnson said Raynoso lives in the apartments above Riverside Variety. It was unclear why she attempted to turn around. Raynoso, Gray and a passenger in Gray’s vehicle, Cameron McIntosh of Auburn, were all taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both crashes remained under investigation Sunday night.
