KINGFIELD – The Kingfield POPS will present the Maranacook String Band in a performance for the community and for grades kindergarten through eight in SAD 58 on Thursday, May 31. The band will perform at 10 a.m. at the Strong School and at 12:45 p.m. at the Kingfield School. Community members are invited to attend one or both performances. Admission is free.

Consisting of current and former Maranacook area students, the Maranacook String Band is a professional bluegrass band led by nationally known bluegrass songwriter Stan Keach.

The band features the hot mandolin picking of Dan Simons and two outstanding teenage lead vocalists, Julie Churchill and Lee Stetson. Bassist Zach Greenham and banjoist Megan Door round out the band. Al Hawkes of the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame said of them, “Great playing on acoustic instruments; marvelous solo voices and beautiful vocal harmonies!”

As a key part of its mission, the Kingfield POPS brings outstanding musicians into the schools to inspire youths. This will be the 10th school performance that the POPS has brought to the schools of SAD 59 and MBRSD in this academic year.

The String Band has been invited to perform on the big stage at the 10th annual Kingfield POPS on June 30 at the Kennedy Farm in Kingfield. The concert will also feature the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, Noel Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary, Erica Brown and the Bluegrass Connection, Nadia and Jocko and the Western Mountain Trash Can Band (steel drums).
