The National Honor Society at Spruce Mountain High School, North Campus, in Jay, is raising money for the Jake Lord “Play it Safe” Foundation. The nonprofit organization was founded by Jenna Lord in memory of her brother Jake. The foundation will help local schools prevent head injuries and concussions by providing the best safety equipment for  sports teams. More information can be found on Facebook at www.facebook.com/JLPISF. The school community is showing their support by purchasing helmet emblems for a dollar or more. These will be displayed in the cafeteria with the donor’s name on them. Donations are also being collected at home varsity baseball and softball games on May 25 and May 30. To support this cause, checks can be made out to Spruce Mountain High School, (memo line: Play it Safe fundraiser) and sent to SMHS North Campus, c/o Maria Rier, National Honor Society Adviser, 33 Community Drive, Jay ME 04239.
