NEW PORTLAND — Skye Theatre in partnership with Kingfield POPS will present guitarist/singer-songwriter Denny Breau in the first of a series of three Maine Masters concerts.
He will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 10, at the North New Portland Community Church.
Other concerts will feature Frank Ferrel on Monday, July 16; and Erica Brown and The Bluegrass Connection on Sunday, Aug. 12.
Breau, who plays six-string guitar, is known for his lighting fast guitar lines, finely crafted songs, charisma and skill at seamlessly mixing folk, Delta blues, country and jazz.
He was inducted into the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004, the youngest inductee in the organization’s history.
Breau, who regularly greets concertgoers with handshakes and a friendly smile, has a passion for sharing his guitar-playing techniques, especially the guitar style of Chet Atkins, who was a family friend and major influence.
Breau started playing guitar when he was 9 years old and was performing professionally by his early teens. During more than 30 years as a full-time musician, he has performed with many well-known artists and picked alongside such notables as Bryan Sutton, Harvey Reid, J.P. Cormier, Pat Donohue, Dan Crary and Steve Kaufman.
He has long been in demand as a studio musician and has done jingles and sound tracks for radio and television as well as recorded and produced albums for other artists. He was a member of roots music trio Turkey Hollow with Tom Rowe and Tom’s son Dave. Besides an active solo career, he gives private guitar lessons and teaches music clinics. He also fronts the Denny Breau Trio.
The North New Portland Community Church is at 14 Handcock Pond Road. Tickets are $10/$25 for the family. They will be sold at the door or call 562-4445.
