PARIS — The town will hold a special meeting Monday night to discuss the police merger and the town auditor’s report.

The meeting will give residents an opportunity to hear about the most recent audit and on the proposed merger between the Paris and Norway police departments.

The proposed merger, which would be the first of its kind in Maine, is a plan written by Paris police Chief David Verrier and Norway Chief Robert Federico. It calls for a one-year trial period before going into effect, and the trial period and final merger would have to be approved by voters in both towns.

Under the plan, Federico would become the chief of both departments. Verrier would be the school resource officer at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, and Paris officers would take supervisor duties.

Paris selectmen recently removed a warrant article asking Paris residents to vote on the trial period at the June 16 town meeting, citing a need for more information on the plans and the effect on both towns.

The meeting is set for 7 p.m. Monday, June 4, at the Paris Fire Station.
