Businessmen on Lisbon and Main streets and many owners of property in the residential sections of Lewiston are concerned over the failure thus far to learn of any arrangements for sprinkling the streets during the season. Already the dust is flying on the streets, when it isn’t raining. The car sprinkler owned by L.A. and W. Street Railway has been engaged for use in Auburn for the season and the city has given the road the free use of the water. As the road has but one sprinkling car at present, nothing can be done for Lewiston by the road this year.

The Lewiston Police Commission this evening will ask the Lewiston Board of Mayor and Aldermen for local legislation raising the limit on parking ticket fines to $2 in some instances. This would include instances of parking on the street from midnight to 6 a.m. where restricted. The fines for meter violations and parking in non-metered spots would remain 50 cents.

Hudson Bus Lines has lost more than 30 percent of its riders over the past four years. Susan Dollar, a transit coordinator for the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments, is trying to find out why. “People are really enthusiastic about the service,” says Dollar, who surveyed riders this week. “There’s a big demand for Saturday and mid-day service. They’re not really critical at all. That came as a mild surprise.” Dave Asselin, who has left his Tall Pines home to climb aboard a Hudson bus nearly every day for the last seven years, is one of many Hudson riders who are quick to praise the service. “The fares are excellent, and you can go just about anywhere you want. I guess I wish they still had a route that goes up to Lake Auburn, though,” Asselin said.
