AUBURN — Lorraine C. Martel, 81, of Summit Avenue, Lewiston, died Wednesday, June 6, at Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice with family by her side after a long battle with leukemia.

She was born in Lewiston, May 8, 1931, a daughter of the late Francois and Yvonne Fortin Robert, she attended Lewiston High School.

Mrs. Martel was a lifelong resident of Lewiston and an active member of the Prince of Peace Parish at Holy Cross Church, the Living Rosary Association, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Holy Cross Knights of Columbus. She worked for many years at Bates Manufacturing Co. as a spinner in the Hill and Bates Division.

Lorraine enjoyed being with family, working in her garden, canning fresh vegetables, playing cards, and was an avid Boston Bruins fan. She also enjoyed hosting family gatherings for all holidays and special events.

She will be remembered for her kindness and generosity and for her love of family.

She is survived by her husband, Roland O. Martel of Lewiston, whom she married Oct. 22, 1960; two daughters, Joline Jacques and husband, David, of Cumberland and Elaine Ouellette and husband, Albert, of Lewiston; a son, Conrad A. Martel of Lewiston; six grandchildren, Nicholas Jacques, Melissa Jacques, Angela Martel, Timmy Labonte, Curtis Ouellette and Mallory Ouellette; two sisters, Muriel Majumder of Auburn and Laurianne Lambert and husband, Roland, of Lewiston; a brother, Raymond Robert and his wife, Marilyn, of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Santi Majumder; and daughter-in-law, Donna (Lacasse) Martel, Feb. 22.
