The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department awarded its “Deputy of the Year” and “Corrections Officer of the Year.

On May 24 and 25, the awards were given to Det. Maurice Druin, a deputy, and Travis Fectau, a jail guard.

Druin was singled out for his work to catch the people responsible for a string of local burglaries. The on-going investigation has involved police agencies in Maine and the region, Chief Deputy Nelson Peters said.

“Mo has an excellent rapport with people,” Peters said. “He’s being diligent, putting the nose to the grindstone and digging through the details of the case.”

Fectau was cited for his work in support of the Special Olympics and such events as the annual Lobster Dip at Old Orchard Beach, in which people collect sponsors and jump in the ocean on New Years Day.

Both men are five-year veterans of the sheriff’s department.

Druin is 35. Fectau is 24.
