STANDISH, Maine — Two boys reportedly have been charged with arson in connection with a fire on Mosley Road that destroyed a historic chapel.

The boys were arrested, according to the Portland Press Herald.

Standish Fire-EMS went to The Richville Chapel around 1:30 p.m. after a report of a fully involved structure fire. Firefighters had to fight the fire from the exterior, according to Fire Chief Brent J. Libby.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office.

The nearby road was closed while crews battled the fire, a dispatcher said.

Water was supplied from a nearby brook but manpower was limited given it was a weekday fire, Libby said in a press release. The fire was brought under control about 2:30 p.m.

No one was injured in the fire or the firefighting effort, Libby said. Mutual aid was provided by Gorham, Windham, Buxton, Limington, Sebago and Baldwin fire departments.
