DOVER-FOXCROFT — On Monday, June 25, at 8 a.m. the Western Mountains Alliance will offer a comprehensive workshop on online farmers markets and local foods buying clubs. The workshop will be held at Penquis Higher Education Center, 50 Mayo St., Room 110.

The workshop will introduce the concept of online farmers markets and local food buying clubs, explain how they work and offer tangible tools and best practices to help interested communities organize and maintain a club or market. Bring your laptop. We hope to have access to the Internet so participants can explore various online ordering systems in real time.

VBS theme is ‘Sonrise’

JAY — “Sonrise National Park” is the theme for the annual Vacation Bible School at Bean’s Corner Baptist Church from June 25-29.

Sessions will be held daily from 9 to 11:45 a.m. There is no charge and children can be preregistered by calling the church at 645-2925. Classes will be held for children age 4 through sixth grade.

During the week, children will sing lively songs, watch skits, create crafts, play games, learn scripture and attend Bible-themed classes.

The church is at the intersection of Routes 133 and 156.

Bible school theme is ‘Aviation’

NEW PORTLAND — The Western Mountains Baptist Church and the Kingfield First Baptist Church are once again partnering in Vacation Bible School. Children and their parents are invited to the WMBC church from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 25, through Thursday, June 28.

The Amazing Wonders Aviation is an exciting adventure for children ages 4 to fifth grade. Children will encounter God’s awesome power as they “take off” to some of the world’s greatest natural wonders. For each of the four mornings, children will “fly” from wonder to wonder such as Victoria Falls, the Great Barrier Reef and the Grand Canyon. There will be a great mix of Bible stories, games, food, music, crafts and fun.

For those who would like to stay, the Mt. Abram High School free lunch program will be offering a free cold lunch to children under the age of 18. Adult lunches are $4. Let planners know at registration if your family will be staying for lunch.

Society gets building grant

STRATTON — The trustees of Sugarloaf Region Charitable Trust have awarded a grant of $4,000 to help replace clapboards, sheathing, sills, and door on the north side of the Dead River Historical Society museum.

The Dead River Area Historical Society is a nonprofit organization, incorporated in the state of Maine in 1979 for the purpose of preserving and promoting interest in the history of the Dead River area. Artifacts, manuscripts photographs, etc. have been donated or loaned from interested townspeople and descendants of the Dead River areas. Displays include a collection of old carpentry and logging tools, china, glass, church organ, furniture from native families, a complete schoolroom, a memorial room to the “lost” towns of Flagstaff and Dead River Plantation, the lineage of several native families and a host of memorabilia from native homesteads.

The Dead River Area Historical Society is open every weekend during July and August from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Rangeley fly-in

RANGELEY — The Rangeley Family Fly-In will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, on Rangeley Lake. There will be a spot landing competition, short takeoff competition and a parade of planes, as well as a barbecue all afternoon at the sea plane base.
