LEWISTON — Community Credit Union of Lewiston and Auburn was recognized at the March 2012 Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C., as the national recipient of the Desjardins Youth and Adult Financial Education Awards.
The credit union also received second-place awards for the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award and the Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Member Service Award.
Donna Steckino, president/CEO at that time, and Kerry Wood, incoming president/CEO of Community Credit Union, accepted the awards in front of credit unions from around the nation.
Credit unions around the nation submit award entries to their state credit union leagues. The first-place winners for each state are entered into the national competition.
The Desjardins Youth and Adult Financial Education Awards are given to a credit union that demonstrates leadership and outreach in youth and adult financial education initiatives.
The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award is designed to encourage credit union involvement in community projects and activities.
The Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Member Service Award is given to a credit union that demonstrates a program or policy that shows their commitment to the credit union philosophy of “People-Helping-People.”
