PARIS — A Vermont man is accused of sexually assaulting a young girl in early May.
Kevin P. Collins, 53, of Brattleboro, Vt., faces two counts of gross sexual assault and one count of assault from an incident on May 5, according to Assistant District Attorney Joseph O’Connor. The girl named in the affidavit is younger than 12 years old.
Collins was arrested Thursday in his hometown by Maine State Police Trooper John Haney, who said the arrest came from a referral from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
Collins appeared in 11th District Court in Paris on Friday. He was unable to make bail and will remain in custody on $50,000 cash bail, or $100,000 surety. He asked to delay his bail hearing and is due to appear in Oxford County Superior Court in Paris on Sept. 4.
If released, Collins won’t be allowed contact with children younger than 16 or use or possession of alcohol.
