CANTON — Gerald L. “Gerry” Knox, 67, a resident of Victorian Villa Nursing Home, died early Tuesday, July 10, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 25, 1944, in Fayette, the son of Charles Leslie and Christie Belle (Carl) Knox. Gerald was a 1962 graduate of Livermore Falls High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965 during the Vietnam War. On Feb. 2, 1967, in Livermore, he married Alta Ruth Turcotte, they later divorced in 1987.

Gerald worked the bull gang driving trucks, wheelers and heavy equipment for IP at the Otis and Androscoggin Mills in Jay. He retired in 1987. He also owned and operated their family farm, Bar X Mini Farm in Fayette.

He was a member of the Frank L. Mitchell, VFW Post 3335 in Jay and the Future Farmers of America (FFA). Gerald enjoyed serving his community, he was one of the volunteers that helped build Griffin Field at Livermore Falls High School; he served as selectman for the Town of Fayette and was always ready to help a friend or neighbor.

Gerald loved going to agricultural fairs, dickering, dancing, walking, going for rides, singing, cribbage, country music and watching GAC. He also liked working in the woods, snowmobiling, tinkering, carpentry, building barns, remodeling the family home, plowing and haying. He especially loved times spent with his family, playing poker with Donald, he reminisced about the time his brother, Alton and he built a go-cart and how much he liked riding them, sharing general knowledge with his children, grandchildren and friends and basically enjoying life in every way.

Gerald will be remembered for his quick wit, humor, jokes and ditties and his charming all of the female medical staff no matter where he was.

He is survived by his son, Donald Knox of Livermore; his two daughters, Melisa Knox of Fayette and Tammy Knox of Livermore Falls; three grandchildren, Ashley, Justin and Lorissa; three sisters, Hazel Passino of Jay, Lucille Gardner and her husband, David, of East Dixfield and Maxine Smith and her husband, Charles, of North Jay; several cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Alton Knox; and his sister, Erla Nichols.
