Vets wanted for 24th stone

LEWISTON — Applications are being accepted for names to be placed on the 24th stone in Veterans Memorial Park. Organizers hope to have the stone complete by Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

Anyone who would like to see the name of a veteran inscribed on the stone must furnish a copy of the veteran’s separation papers and DD214.

Barbecue, music at bike night

AUBURN — A musical performance by the Broad Street Band will take place on Friday, July 20, at the William J. Rogers Post 153 at 71 South Main St. for the American Legion Riders Bike Night.

A barbecue will begin at 6 p.m. with burgers and hot dogs sold by American Legion Riders Post 153. The music and dance will begin at 8 p.m.

Proceeds raised will benefit the Maine Homeless Vets and Legacy Fund. There will be a 50/50 raffle.

Maine-ly Harmony yard sale

PALERMO — Maine-ly Harmony women’s a cappella barbershop chorus will hold its annual super yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at Hill Gardens, Route 3.

The sale will feature the goods from 30 households. Plants, books and unexpected treasures await the bargain-hunter. Barbershop harmony will again fill the air and the Harmony Cafe will be serving hot dogs, home-baked goods and beverages.

Seniors to hold Fun Day

AUBURN — The Lewiston Senior Citizens will have their annual Fun Day at Lost Valley on Thursday, Aug. 9, at 9:30 a.m. Doors will open at 9 and bingo will start at 9:30. Lunch will be served at noon. The lunch will include stuffed turkey, salad, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, rolls, beverage and dessert.

Motorcycle ride benefits vets

LEWISTON — The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, Chapter 17-1, will hold a fundraising ride Saturday, July 28, to benefit veterans who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The proceeds will help pay for veterans and their families to attend Camp Kiev on Damariscotta Lake in Nobleboro, where veterans and their families can relax and enjoy indoor and outdoor activities free of charge. This is the second year of the program at the camp, which is also known as Camp Wabis.

The association-sponsored ride will begin at 10:30 a.m. at L-A Harley-Davidson, 839 Main St., and end nearly 40 miles later at Camp Kiev. Anyone interested in participating is welcome. The cost is $20 for motorcycle and driver and $10 for passengers.

Shaker Village workshops

NEW GLOUCESTER — Woodcarvers with some experience are invited to an intermediate woodcarving workshop to be held at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 28. Award winning carver Norm Devonshire will lead the workshop. Fee is $35.

A quilting workshop will teach participants how to make a star table topper from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 28. Contact the village for special instructions. Fee is $35.

Cary Library silent auction

WAYNE — Cary Memorial Library will hold a silent auction from Saturday, July 28, through noon on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Auction items include a 14-foot sailboat with trailer, quilts, leather goods, a hand crafted drop-leaf table, a toboggan, paintings, photographs, an iPod Touch, lots of hand crafted jewelry, vintage furniture and more.

The library is just off Route 133 at 17 Old Winthop Road. The auction is being held at the library’s new property across the street, The Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road. The auction will be open during regular library hours beginning July 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
