DIXFIELD — The Webb River Valley Sportsman’s Club will host a special Troop Support event at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at 1109 Canton Point Road.
Members and their guests will have several opportunities that evening to support the Maine National Guard’s 488th Military Police Company during their Afghanistan deployment and two lucky winners will go home with $100 gift certificates that have been donated by Kittery Trading Post.
The “Spirit of America” bear motif king-size quilt, created by Vietnam veteran Bob Bates, will also be on display. The quilt is one of the fund-raiser projects for the 488th MP Company and the winner will be drawn at the Rumford American Legion Post’s cribbage game on Sept. 11.
All money raised on the quilt will be used to provide care packages that include not only necessities but special requests coming directly from those soldiers as well as occasional surprise, spirit-lifting touches of home.
District 93 State House candidate Lisa Keim and Sharon McKellar of the cribbage group will be on hand to answer questions and invite everyone to send messages to the soldiers.
New members are welcome and may join that evening. Anyone interested in making donations to the Care Package Fund may contact Sharon McKellar at 369-2127.
