Thomas College visits schools

WATERVILLE — A representative from Thomas College will visit the following schools:

Mountain Valley High School in Rumford at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14.

Dirigo High School in Dixfield at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14.

Spruce Mountain High School – South in Livermore Falls at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14.

Spruce Mountain High School – North in Jay at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14.

Leavitt Area High School in Turner at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18.

Poland Regional High School in Poland at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18.

The representative will meet with students to discuss Thomas’ academic and sports programs, and its residential life opportunities.

Masonic supper Sept. 15

WILTON — A public Masonic supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Harland M. Harnden Masonic Hall, 70 Bryant Road, East Wilton, to benefit the building association. The menu will be barbecue chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, rolls, blueberry cake and beverages. Adults $8, under 12 $5. For more information call 778-2354.

Fish & Game field day

WILTON — Wilton Fish & Game Field Day will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16.

There will be trap, archery, cowboy shoot and a shooting gallery. Eye and ear protection required. Lunch provided by youth league. For information call 645-4867.

Plant ID, control workshop

WILTON — The Maine Forest Service in cooperation with the Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District will hold an invasive plant identification and control workshop from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Wilton Town office on Route 156, with an outside session on the Pond Road in Wilton. The cost is $15.

This training will help participants identify upland invasive plants common to Maine’s forests and develop mechanical and chemical control strategies.

Anyone with an interest in invasive plants is encouraged to attend.

Ann Gibbs, state horticulturist, will give the presentation. Patty Cormier of the Maine Forest Service will serve as facilitator. The inside session will be followed by a field component so bring appropriate field gear for forecasted weather conditions. Continuing education credits may be available.
