RUMFORD – On Friday, Sept. 7, the public is invited to find out about “Kaleidoscope,” a monthly celebration of the arts. The first event will take place from 7 to 10 p.m., at the Mystic Theater, 49 Franklin St.

Visual artists as well as performing artists convene to share their love and respect of artistic and creative expression. All artists agree to work for a FEE (fair energy exchange); at the end of the evening and during the event friends and guests can pitch their monetary gratitude into the hat to be shared by the performers and artists. The three-hour experience is hosted and emceed by local entertainer Scot Grassette.

The initial “Kaleidoscope” will feature visual artist Liz Murphy, creating a work of art from what most people would consider trash. Performing will be Dennis Labbe of Steep Falls. Labbe has performed for corporations, at grade schools and colleges, campgrounds, libraries and nightclubs as well as countless private parties all over New England. His act offers magic and illusion for the mind and comedy for the funny bone. Labbe plans plans to perform his incredible strait jacket escape. Also taking the stage is David Reed Brown, who has performed at “Wonderground” in LasVegas, Nev., a program created by Jeff McBride, on which “Kaleidoscope” is based. Brown tells stories from his life that will enlighten, teach and celebrate what it means to overcome great challenges — to be our truest selves — to challenge our assumptions and experience a love that connects all of us together.

There is no cover charge to enter “Kaleidoscope;” there will be a cash bar and snacks. Artists, performers, musicians and dancers who would like to participate are encouraged to contact Scot Grassette at [email protected] or 207-369-0129 to participate in future Kaleidoscopes held on the first Friday of each month.
