FARMINGTON — SAVES will host a support group for women this fall, facilitated by Aimee Cecile, master of social work.

The meetings will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday from Oct. 2 through Dec. 4.

The group assists in the healing through conversation, art, writing and learning skills for healing emotional pain. Individuals will learn to manage symptoms of traumatic stress by participating in creative activities that will help break the isolation and develop peace within them. No previous art or writing experience is necessary.

“These groups are one of the most important services we offer,” Nicholas Citriglia, SAVES coordinator said. “The safe space that can be created within a support group can allow room for tremendous growth, healing and processing.”

Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services is the new name of the agency providing sexual assault related services throughout Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin counties. In October of 2011, the Sexual Assault Crisis Center of Androscoggin County, the Rape Education and Crisis Hotline of Oxford County and the Sexual Assault Victims Emergency Services of Franklin County merged to become one agency. The new agency is maintaining the staff; offices and services of SACC, REACH and SAVES, and sexual assault services may continue to be known by those names in their local communities.

This group is free and confidential. For further information or to sign up, call the SAVES office at 207-778-9522, send an e-mail to savescoordinator@sapars.org or stop by the office.

For nearly 30 years, SAVES has helped people in Franklin County recover from the trauma of sexual violence. Through educational programs designed to reshape common attitudes and beliefs that make sexual violence common, SAVES works to prevent all forms of sexual violence.
