LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine offers two six-week sessions this fall of Line Dancing and Two-Step and Waltz for Beginnings with instructor Al Hipkins beginning Wednesday, Sept. 19.
Line dancing classes will be held from 6 to 6:45 p.m., followed by two-step and waltz classes from 7 to 7:45 p.m. Both classes are $36 per person.
Line dancing is a great medium-intensity exercise. Each lesson will teach new steps and combinations for dances. No experience necessary; a minimum of eight people is needed to hold classes.
Two-Step and Waltz for Beginnings: These basic ballroom dances are easy to learn. Lessons will include instruction on leading and following, as well as basic moves to make dancing more enjoyable. This is a low-intensity exercise equivalent to walking. No prior experience necessary; minimum of four couples needed.
Session 1 starts Sept. 19 and Session 2 starts Nov. 7.
Hipkins has been dancing and teaching since 1972. Most recently, he has been teaching line dancing at Martel Elementary School and two-step and waltz in private sessions. He is nationally accredited by Callerlab and is the current president of the New England Callers and Teachers Association, a regional organization of folk dance teachers and callers.
To register, call the YWCA at 795-4050.
