RUMFORD — Rena R. McCray, 100, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, at her home in Rumford, with her family by her side.

She was born in Beverly, Mass., Dec. 15, 1911, the daughter of John and Louise (Sartolli) Carbone. She graduated from Stephens High School, Class of 1930, and also the Fanny Farmer Cooking School in Boston. She worked as a dietitian and managed the hot lunch program at St. Athanasius School in Rumford for many years, until her retirement.

Rena was a communicant of the Parish of the Holy Savior St. Athanasius-St. John Church, a member of St. Timothy Circle 504, Daughters of Isabella, Rumford Mother’s Club and the Rumford Mrs. Club. She enjoyed her home, Worthley Pond, trips to Florida, and Canada, and loved spending time with her family.

She was married in Portsmouth, N.H., Aug. 22, 1932, to Lawrence C. “Tony” McCray, who died in Rumford, Feb. 27, 2001.

Survivors include a daughter, Louise Zollo of Rumford; six grandchildren, Diane Zollo of South Thomaston, Gloria Berry and husband, Mike, of Rumford, Scott Zollo and partner, Rick Chavez, of Long Beach, Calif., Timothy Zollo of Charleston, S.C., Christopher Marr and wife, Patricia, of Wallingford, Conn., and Sarah Montgomery of Budd Lake, N.J.; 12 great-grandchildren, Jason and Sarah Berry of Portland, Meagan and Allison Berry of Rumford, Christine Simmonds of Rockland, Jennifer Kyle and husband, Troy of Plymouth, Mass., Ashlyn Petty of Charleston, S.C., Samuel and Jane Marr of Wallingford, Conn., and Riley, Cathan and John Patrick Montgomery of Great Meadows, N.J.

She was predeceased by her husband; a daughter, Linda Marr; and great-grandchild, John Scott Simmonds.
