A traveler’s aid is needed in Lewiston. At the railroad stations, the upper Maine Central , the lower Maine Central and the Grand Trunk, there are somewhere about thirty-five trains daily. It is safe to say that not one of these trains stop but it lets off, among its passengers, some girl or woman who would be glad of some assistance. In search of employment, many girls and women come to Lewiston. It is their first visit to the city. They have no friends here. In Portland, 2778 persons were helped by the traveler’s aid during the last year.

50 years ago, 1962
Shopping is expected to be heavy in the Lewiston-Auburn business districts the next three days as cooperating Chamber of Commerce merchants present their “Convention Days” bargain festival. The teachers’ convention will be held in Portland, but hundreds of teachers passing through the Twin Cities are expected to take a profitable break in their travel to tour the stores, along with area residents.

25 years ago, 1987
Some changes are on the way for local cable television viewers, including the return of a French Language channel. The cable package will include channel CHLT of Sherbrooke, Quebec. There was a local uproar among Franco-American residents when the company removed the second French-language channel from the cable service last year.
