In five feet of muddy water, down in a catch basin at the corner of Sabatis and Bartlett streets, Lewiston, the lifeless form of a 3-year-old boy was found Friday morning. How the boy came to be there is something that no one seems able to tell and the authorities are now trying to learn how the fatal accident occurred. It is supposed that older and stronger children, while playing about the basin, pulled the iron top from the catch basin and the little fellow lost his balance and fell into the muddy water, where he was drowned. It is possible that the accident did not occur until after the older children had disappeared. It is also quite likely that the children witnessed the accident and were so frightened that they ran home and did not dare to tell about it.
