100 years ago, 1912
(NEWS AT MECHANIC FALLS) A jolly affair was the husking bee at the home of John Stanton, Friday evening. About 75 guests were present and 300 bushels of corn were husked after which a delicious supper was served. This is one of a series of huskings which will be given in the vicinity and happy affairs they are being made.
Nearly everyone about town is crying for coal. Until Tuesday there was not a hod full to be purchased anywhere about, but Monday evening two car loads came in, and now it is hoped that there will be plenty to supply the needs of everyone.

50 years ago, 1962
The entire student body at Edward Little High School in Auburn began undergoing physical examinations this morning as part of the accreditation program for the school. The examinations are being conducted by Dr. Donald Anderson assisted by nurses Paul Lavallee and Joan Mayo. The examinations will continue through this week. This is the first of what will become an annual event.

25 years ago, 1987
Alex Jacobowitz, one of the few professional marimbists in the world, will be presenting a concert of Jewish music on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Temple Shalom, Synagogue-Center, Bradman St., Auburn. The concert is the first in a series of programs which make up Temple Shalom’s 1987-1988 Cultural Arts Festival. In coming weeks, Temple Shalom Synagogue-Center will also present a series of mini-course from the Adult Studies Institute: Academy for Jewish Living. The topic will be “A Taste of Torah – A Taste of Tradition.”
