WALES — A fast-moving fire destroyed a trailer that was being used for storage late Sunday night, but two people who live at the property were not harmed.
Victor Rodrigue looked out of the window of the camper he rents from Martin Finley Jr. at 199 Oak Hill Road and noticed an orange glow in a mobile home that is used for storage, said Chief Anthony Siderio of the Wales Fire Department. The fire was reported about 10:30 p.m.
Another tenant, Kantryn Maroon, lives in a separate mobile home on the property. That mobile home was not damaged, but there was some damage to Rodrigue’s camper.
By midnight, the storage trailer was destroyed, officials said.
Monmouth fire Capt. Ron Cook noted that there were outbuildings in addition to the trailers. “But it’s hard to tell what burned with so little left,” he said. “There’s just a platform there now.”
Firefighters had the blaze under control within 20 minutes.
The cause has not been determined, Siderio said.
More than 40 firefighters from Wales, Monmouth and Sabattus responded. Leeds and Greene fire departments mobilized, but were turned back before they got to the scene.
An investigator from the state Fire Marshal’s Office is expected at the scene Monday morning.
