JAY — Selectmen voted unanimously Monday to approve a three-year contract with a Sewer Department employee represented by Teamsters Union Local 340, Town Manager Ruth Cushman said Tuesday.

The contract calls for a 1 percent pay raise in the first year and 1.5 percent raise in each of the second and third years. It is retroactive to July 1, 2011, Cushman said.

It is the same pay raise other units approved in 2011, she said.

They are currently in the second year of the contract.

The town and Teamsters Union Local 340 representing five transfer station workers are headed to arbitration.

It is the only contract left unsettled, Cushman said.

The parties cannot reach an agreement on wages, hours of work, scheduled time off, overtime, vacation pay, insurance, clothing allowances and extra weekend work.

In other business, selectmen appointed Steve Franchetti as a trustee of the North Jay Water District, Cushman said.

Selectmen will also need to appoint a trustee to the Jay Village Water District, she said. Richard Jackson has resigned as a trustee. Jackson asked selectmen to appoint Greg Libby to the position, but selectmen wanted to make sure that all trustees learned of the resignation and vacancy prior to appointing someone, Cushman said.
