LEWISTON — December’s edition of La Rencontre, the Franco-American Heritage Center’s monthly French language luncheon, will take place at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the center at 46 Cedar St.

On the menu will be a choice of either tourtiere (meat pie) or salmon pie with white sauce, along with pea soup, string beans, beets, dessert and a beverage. The cost of the meal is $7 per person, which also includes an hour of live entertainment after the meal.

Patrons are encouraged to speak only French during the meal in Heritage Hall, which is accessed on the Oxford Street side of the building. In the spirit of fun, persons overheard speaking English may be fined a quarter for doing so, or they may “buy” the right to openly speak in English for one dollar.

After the meal, the patrons will gather in the upstairs Performance Hall to hear Christmas carols sung in French by local favorites Bob Mathieu, Sue Lagueux, Jane Bernier, Connie Hitchcock and Ray Perreault, with Roger Bouffard playing piano and also singing.

Everyone is invited to attend La Rencontre and reservations can be made by calling Claudette Violette at 786-6936 or the Franco Center at 783-1585 by Dec. 6.

November’s gathering sold out with well over 300 in attendance, and so the Franco Center appreciates diners calling ahead to ensure there will be seating for everyone and that enough food for all can be prepared.
