RSU 10’s Math Team hosted 17 teams for a recent math meet. The teams in the Pi-Cone – North Math League ranged from Fryeburg Academy and Lake Region to Spruce Mountain and St. Dom’s. Each team has 10 competing members and some schools have more than one team. In the case of RSU 10, students from both Mountain Valley High School in Rumford and Dirigo High School in Dixfield combined to form a team. According to Math Team coach Katie Killam, “RSU 10 scored 124 points total. Garrett Carver from Mountain Valley and Ryanne Dailey from Dirigo were the high scorers with 20 points each.” During a math meet, students compete individually in five rounds. They can use calculators in just one round. A round consists of three questions and students have 12 minutes to complete the questions. The final round is known as the team round. Team members collaborate to complete nine questions in 12 minutes.
