Students in Susan Coyne’s Telstar High School math class are helping develop the snow volcano in Bethel. Engineer Jim Sysko visited Telstar and gave a talk about how he has used math to design and build various engineering projects. The students decided to combine community service with the opportunity to experience “math in action.” The tunnel they helped dig will function as an air-intake to help ignite the “snowcano.” From left are Josh Eliot, teacher John Eliot, Taran Vitale, Travis Brown, Ryan Bennett, Jordan Pilgrim, Alex Brown, Benton Mackaye, Mohammed Alzubaidi, Dean of Students Charles Raymond, Coyne, Trevor Chenard, Lucas Gordon, Thomas Wright, Sam Mallory and Maisey Griffin.
Savannah Patenaude widens the entrance to the snow volcano in Bethel. Telstar High School math students helped dig a tunnel for the “snowcano,” which was designed and engineered by Jim Sysko of Newry. The volcano will be touched off at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, during Bethel’s Winterfest celebration.
