PORTLAND — Maine business and education leaders have launched an initiative to double the number of computer science and information technology college graduates over the next four years.
The University of Maine System and Educate Maine, a business-led organization that champions higher education initiatives, on Thursday announced the launch of a program called Project Login.
The project’s website, www.projectlogin.com, provides information about careers in computer science and information technology, resources to help middle and high school students prepare for degree programs in those fields, and paid internship and job opportunities.
The program is funded by Bangor Savings Bank, Eastern Maine Health Systems, IDEXX, Maine Medical and Maine Health, TD Bank, Unum and WEX.
Businesses say the lack of trained computer and technology professionals is a growing problem in Maine and nationwide.
