100 years ago, 1913
The West Poland Driving Club offered some exciting races Saturday afternoon on Lake Tripp. H.R. Boone edged a close victory out of the Class A Race, in which Flora Wilkes met with an accident. Baron Wilkes took Class B, in which Gertie B. met with an accident. The seven heats in Class A were the hardest fought races ever seen on Tripp Lake. Every horse fought to the finish. Doccaro was somewhat out of condition and did not win in any heat, yet was so close to the front that it was hard to tell which led.

50 years ago, 1963
Lewiston city officials will be informed by the Maine National Guard chief, Maj. Gen. Edwin H. Heywood, that local Guardsmen will continue to occupy the Memorial Armory here if the proposed construction of a new armory falls through. Use of the Marine Reserve Training Center building on Hammond Street would be for only a temporary period, according to Maine’s adjutant general.

25 years ago, 1988
A malfunction at the Webber Avenue reservoir last weekend resulted in increased chlorine levels to several homes and the shut down of the facility. The malfunction is believed to have affected eight to ten homes along Webber Avenue in Lewiston, near Pleasant Street. A state official said exposure to increased levels of chlorine for a short period of time should pose no health threats. The reservoir has been shut down for nearly one year while a new chlorinator building and chlorinators were added. It was brought back on line last Friday.
