MEXICO — On March 5, the Mexico Free Public Library will start a new preschool program as part of its Terrific Tuesdays.

According to library director Valerie Messana, Terrific Tuesdays started a few years ago.

“I used the name Terrific Tuesdays for a reading program during the summer,” she said.“It’s an enrichment and entertainment program for kids aged 2 to 14. I’ve been doing that for about seven years. I decided to extend it a little bit and do a program for preschool students.”

Messana said the preschool program will be held the first Tuesday of each month, and will differ from the reading program the library hosts on Mondays.

“Usually, we have kids come every Monday at 10 a.m. during the school year for story time,” Messana said, “but this new one is an alternate program, beefed up from the plain little story hour. It will only be once a month, but each month will have a new theme.”

The month of March will celebrate the life of Dr. Seuss, Messana said, and will feature refreshments, games and stories.

“Technically, Dr. Seuss’ birthday is on the 2nd, but it doesn’t fall on a Tuesday, so I moved it to the 5th,” Messana explained.

Messana said the preschool program will last about an hour, which is “similar to the weekly story hour we do right now.”

She said the library is planning to do “either a spring-themed or Easter celebration for April” and currently does not have anything prepared for May.
