St. Patrick’s Day dinner at VFW

AUBURN — The Capt. Frank W. Hulett VFW Post 1603 on 588 Minot Ave. will  have a St. Patrick’s Day dinner at the Post Home on Friday, March 15, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The price is $8 per person for a complete corned beef and cabbage dinner with coffee and dessert.

There will be a free St. Patrick’s Day dance after dinner for those who wish to stay and make a night of it.

North Yarmouth Historical Society

YARMOUTH — On Monday, March 18, at 6:30 p.m., North Yarmouth Historical Society will present its annual meeting and program at the North Yarmouth Congregational Church’s Fellowship Hall, 3 Gray Road (Routes 115 and 231). The short annual meeting will precede the evening’s program, “Focus on the Center.”

North Yarmouth’s small Walnut Hill village is poised at the edge of change. For a community that can seem no more than a crossroads, a plan for creating a town center is a stimulating idea that’s begun to percolate.

And when the town’s Historical Society proposes to move its 150-year-old Old Town House to the Town Center site, the plan starts to take on a more exciting focus.

DAV meeting is March 19

LEWISTON — Disabled American Veterans will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at the Lewiston Armory. The group will meet the third Tuesday of each month.

Grange seeks talent contestants

POLAND — Excelsior Grange in Poland is sponsoring its 5th annual amateur talent contest and is seeking contestants. There will be two age categories, youth 4-15 and adults over 16. The contest will be held April 20 at 7 p.m. at the Grange Hall on Harris Hill Road.

Each category will have two monetary prizes: $100 for first place and $50 for second place. The audience will also choose one act as the Peoples Choice Award, which is $50.

Any and all forms of general audience entertainment are encouraged to enter. Preregistration is required. The deadline to enter is April 13.

Audience admission will be $3 for adults and children under 12 free. Anyone wishing to enter the contest can request an entry form or more information by calling 998-2301 or email sverrill@roadrunner.com. Entry forms will also be available at local schools.

Saturday morning book club

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Public Library’s Saturday morning book club has announced its next selection: “The Death of Bees,” by Lisa O’Donnell. The next meeting of the club will take place on Saturday, April 6 at 2 p.m. in the Couture Room.

AUBURN — A Parenting Matters Conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at St. Dominic Academy, 121 Gracelawn Road.

Join Stan Davis, keynote and international expert on bullying prevention and awareness, who will share the results from the Youth Voice Project and strategies for preventing and addressing bullying. Choose three workshops from three tracks of 36 topics ranging from parent education, professional development and self-care. Lunch will be provided by Heidi’s Brooklyn Deli.
