Danville Grange meets March 28

AUBURN — Members of Danville Junction Grange will meet on Thursday, March 28, for a 6 p.m. supper with Excelsior Grange as guests.

The program, beginning at 7 p.m., will feature Auburn Police Officer Tom Poulin, who will speak about the Auburn PAL Center on Chestnut Street, which recently opened. All members and guests are invited.

Senior Citizens Cribbage League

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Lewiston Memorial Armory on March 21 were: first, Roberta Greenlaw and Roland Bosse; second, Maurice Fournier and Arnie Burgess; third, Val Asselin and Gerry Roy; fourth, Mickie Farnum and Norm Bissonnette; fifth, Terry Chambers and Bob Cielinski.

Used book sale at Mid Coast

BRUNSWICK— Thousands of used books on every topic under the sun have been donated for the annual Spring Used Book Sale at Mid Coast Hospital, Thursday and Friday, April 4 and 5, in the Cafe Conference Rooms. The sale will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.

Sponsored by the Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary, proceeds of the sale benefit health career scholarships for area high school, college and non-traditional students. Scholarship applications, due April 15, are online at www.midcoasthealth.com/volunteer.

The last day to donate books is Saturday, March 30, from 9 a.m. to noon at the back door of the old Bookland, Cook’s Corner Mall.

LEWISTON — The Annual Meeting of the Auburn Art Club will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, at the Culinary Arts building at Central Maine Community College. Note change of day and time.

The speaker will be Annette Dorey, a well-known Maine author. She will discus her book, “Maine Mothers Who Murdered 1875-1925: Doing Time in State Prison.” She has a new book coming out in the spring titled “Miss Dr. Lucy — Maine’s Pioneering Female Physicians, 1850s-1920.”

Dorey’s career has taken her from the Midwest to the Southwest, Canada and New England. She is a former professor of education and human development at the University of New Brunswick.

This is the final meeting of the 2012-13 season.

‘Homeless Youth’ shown at church

LISBON — Bob Rowe, executive director of New Beginnings, will be the guest speaker at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, at the Lisbon United Methodist Church, 14 School St.

Storyteller Carol Birch at library

TOPSHAM — Topsham Public Library will welcome award-winning storyteller Carol Birch to perform and lead workshops for all ages.

On Thursday, April 4, at 6:30 p.m., Birch will speak at the Friends of Topsham Public Library annual meeting where she will tell the story of Lou Gehrig, a man whose story is much more than just baseball. All are invited.

On Saturday, April 6, Birch will present two programs at the library. At 11 a.m. she will present a special program as a preview to the Summer Reading Program for ages 4 and up and their grown-ups. Listen to a story then learn how to tell your own story.

At 2 p.m., Carol will present a storytelling workshop for adults. “Do Tell! The Art of Storytelling” is designed to identify and strengthen storytelling skills. It will also link in with a special yet-to-be-announced Summer Reading event.

Teen Opportunities Fair at library

LEWISTON — Lewiston Public Library will hold the Teen Opportunities Fair for teens ages 13 to 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6.

The event will showcase community groups that hire or provide learning services to teens, and the CareerCenter will present an Applying Online 101 class. There will be food and door prizes.

History Barn Open House

NEW GLOUCESTER — The monthly New Gloucester History Barn Open House on Route 231 behind the Town Hall will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 6.

Free meditation workshop planned

LEWISTON – The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing will offer a free meditation workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. Kirtan Meditation will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in the Wellness Center at Parkview Adventist Medical Center.

Presenter Ashok Nalamalapu invites participants to experience the joy of group chanting and reach a higher consciousness. Meditation can take many forms. In Kirtan, a group of people chant together to create a symphony of sound that frees up minds to find a blissful state within-together as one. No experience necessary.
