According to a news statement from Belfast police Detective Bryan Cunningham, three people wearing hoods with their faces covered approached the front door of Belfast Jewelry in Reny’s Plaza at 12:05 a.m. Thursday. One of the people shot the front door with some type of handgun, shattering the glass.
The actions of the three were captured by a surveillance camera.
The remaining glass was knocked out with a hammer and then the trio went into the store and smashed glass-top display cases. The three grabbed assorted pieces of jewelry and put them into a bag that one of them was carrying.
The surveillance video is being reviewed and evidence for DNA testing was gathered at the scene, Cunningham said.
