CARTHAGE — A local man faces several charges after Franklin County deputies were alerted on March 23 by Rumford hospital medical personnel about a child brought in with apparent physical abuse.
Franklin County Sheriff Deputies Nate Reid and Detective David St. Laurent interviewed the victim, the biological mother and witnesses and apparently learned that injury was caused to one or more children, Franklin County Lt. Niles Yeaton said Monday.
Deputies applied for a search warrant to search a residence in Carthage.
According to the deputies’ report, the residence was inhabitable and there was a dog there with a two- to three-week-old injury, Yeaton said.
Deputies arrested Mark A. Hutchinson, 39, on misdemeanor charges of domestic violence assault, endangering the welfare of a child and issued him a summons charging cruelty to animals, Yeaton said.
The child was treated and released from the hospital, Yeaton said.
There are four children in the family under age 12, he said.
Hutchinson was released from Franklin County Jail on Friday on a Maine pretrial service contract.
