Educators to meet April 15

STRONG — The Franklin County Retired Educators will hold their first meeting of the spring at 11 a.m. Monday, April 15, at the White Elephant. The program will be a slide presentation of Schools in Honduras. Lunch will be either pot roast or roast turkey.

All retired educators are invited to join the group, although a count is needed by April 10 for lunch reservations. Contact 645-4437 to reserve a spot.

Genealogists to meet April 13

FARMINGTON — The Sandy River Valley Chapter, MGS, will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at the Farmington Public Library.

Claudia Bell, who volunteers at the Norlands, will tell the group about one of the daughters of Israel and Martha Washburn, and a sister of the famous Washburn brothers. Anyone with an interest in genealogy is welcome to attend.

Summer Scrub Club Camp

FARMINGTON — A few openings remain for the Summer Scrub Club Camp taking place June 24 to 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ben Franklin Center at Franklin Memorial Hospital. The camp is designed to introduce participants to a wide variety of careers available in health care and is open to all students who will be entering grades 8-12.

A sampling of careers explored may include: physical therapy and sports medicine, nursing, pharmacy, radiology, anesthesiology, cardiopulmonary, orthopedics, medical lab science, mental health counseling and emergency medical services. Campers will have the opportunity to participate in unique hands-on activities and demonstrations such as X-ray interpretation, casting, suturing, prostheses, lab analysis and emergency response to a mock accident. All campers will receive certification in Heartsaver CPR.

Historical Society meeting

NEW VINEYARD — The New Vineyard Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at Smith Hall.

Bob and Cragen Healy will be sharing their experiences in Honduras.

Meetings will be held at Smith Hall during the summer months. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

Homemakers meet April 18

CHESTERVILLE — The North Chesterville Extension Homemakers will meet on Thursday, April 18, at the Chesterville Town Office on the Dutch Gap Road. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. The topic will be England, led by Linda Gramlich.

All meetings are free and open to the public. Learn something about England or share a story or two of your own. For information call 778-3156.

Disposal, recycling of e-waste

FARMINGTON — A free electronics e-waste disposal and recycling will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Aubuchon Hardware’s parking lot on Routes 2 and 4.

Sponsored by Old South First Congregational Church of Farmington, electronics such as televisions, computers, monitors, VCRs and other electronic devices will be accepted. A complete list of items is available at www.ewastemaine.com

The event is approved by the Department of Environmental Protection.

Free will donations will be accepted to support community service, outreach and youth programs at the church.
