Not long after graduation from Edward Little High School, Peters soon entered the world of professional seamstresses. She learned the art of alterations, working at Ward Brothers, a ladies clothing retailer in downtown Lewiston.

Her next adventure in professional sewing, took her to The Curtain Shop, working in the fabrication department. There she learned how to make everything from roman shades to swags and jabots.

Peters’ next sewing adventure found her working in the theater department at Bates College. There she spent 15 years, in charge of the costume department. While at Bates she took classes in pattern draping and drafting and studied costume history. Her favorite part of her job at Bates was working with the students. She still maintains relationships with many of them.

Upon her departure from Bates, Peters soon found her way to Creative Sewing in Auburn. There she taught beginner’s sewing, quilting classes and children’s sewing classes.

The next leg of Peters’ sewing adventures has led to the opening of Simply Sewing at 12 Main St., Canton. She teaches a variety of sewing-related classes. She runs classes during the day and evening.

Do you want to learn to quilt? She can teach you how. Maybe you want to learn to make clothing for your children? She can help you with that. Cover a cushion? Yes, she can handle that, too. Oh, yes, she also teaches classes for children from ages 7 and up. Need a custom quilt for a new baby or wedding gift? That, too, can be done at Simply Sewing. Have odd size windows? Let Peters customize them for you. Simply Sewing also carries a small (but growing) assortment of quilting cottons and notions. Peters only buys close-out fabrics to keep the prices affordable. It gets even better — she has even been known to run a sale, from time to time.

Simply Sewing is a great social outlet. So come on in for a visit. Make new friends or rekindle old friendships. Get creative and have a ball while doing so. You will find Peters at Simply Sewing from noon-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays; from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays; and from 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays.
