FARMINGTON — A new venture showcasing local crafters and artists will soon open at 248 Wilton Road.

Sally Clark-Utans of Farmington plans to open Meadows by May in the CN Brown site formerly occupied by the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce.

Appreciating the hard work and persistence involved in creating and selling an art or craft piece, Clark-Utans said she wants to give local artists a new venue to show and sell their work.

With 42 crafters and artists already committed to setting up a small booth for their work, the variety of items offered has a wide range, she said. They include ornaments made of natural pods, wreaths, furniture, goat-milk soap, table runners, paintings and photos, duck decoys and bowling ball lawn ornaments.

Items will be changed frequently so the shop stays fresh, she said.

Clark-Utans wants to showcase the work done and provide more access to them. Each participant was found through attending local craft fairs.

Unlike craft fairs where the artists haul items in and out for a short-term sale, a booth at Meadows provides a venue for their work to be seen and appreciated, she said. Staff can provide business cards for the artists if the customer has more questions about the work they can do, she added.

Utans had considered spaces in Rangeley and downtown Farmington when arrangements with CN Brown for the Wilton Road were settled last month.

A sign and awning are expected to arrive shortly. The awning will bear the name “Meadows …. seeds of creativity springing forth.”
