NEW GLOUCESTER — The New Gloucester Water District will hold a design and engineering forum to present plans for $2.4 million water system for Upper Gloucester.

The forum will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at the AMVET Post 6 Hall on Route 100. Public comments and questions will be encouraged, town planner Paul First said.

The project is proceeding according to schedule and ground breaking is expected this summer.

Voters approved the project in February. It will supply water to 50 households and businesses. Twenty-one users have documented contamination of their wells or are at risk of contamination from benzene, MBTE and salt that dates back to the 1980s.

Because of concerns about the town vote that approved the project, three different petitions are being circulated that could alter plans for the new water system. Selectmen have denied a request to hold another vote on the project.
