— Volunteermaine.org is accepting financial donations, which will be distributed to Lewiston fire victims through the United Way of Androscoggin County. To donate, go to volunteermaine.org and click on the link for the Lewiston Fire Relief Fund. Or, send contributions directly to the United Way, 66 Ash St., Lewiston, ME 04243-0888 and write “Lewiston Fire Relief Fund” in the memo line.

— Salvation Army, 67 Park St., Lewiston, RE: Lewiston Downtown Fires. Email Jason.Brake@use.salvationarmy.org or call 783-0801. The Salvation Army is no longer accepting donated goods because of limited storage space.

— Catholic Charities is accepting financial donations to help Lewiston fire victims. To donate, call 781-8555.

— Area credit unions have joined together to raise funds through an initiative titled, “LIFTING LEWISTON: Credit Unions Coming Together to Support Our Neighbors.” Donations can be made at a number of area credit union locations and all funds raised will go to the American Red Cross, United Valley Chapter. Participating credit unions include: Central Maine FCU, Community CU, Great Falls FCU, Lewiston Municipal FCU, Maine Family FCU, Monmouth FCU, Rainbow FCU, Sabattus Regional CU, Five County CU, Lisbon Community FCU, and Midcoast FCU.

— The Root Cellar, an interdenominational Christian mission founded to support inner-city youth and their families, is offering two ways to help: Drop off gift cards, toiletries and microwavable foods at the Root Cellar, at 89 Birch St.; or go to  (http://www.therootcellar.org/?page_id=1443), which will connect donations to fire victims with specific needs. — Big Lots in Auburn is filling bags with basic necessities that can be purchased for $10. For every bag purchased, Big Lots will add a $10 gift certificate for the victims.

Fundraisers

— An informal, non-timed fun run/walk 5K will be held Thursday, May 16, at 6 p.m. at Farwell Elementary School in Lewiston with all proceeds going to the Northeast Bank fund for the fire victims. Minimum donation is $5. For more information, go to www.facebook.com/events/575614765804134/

— All proceeds from the 9th annual Remembering Tom Rowe Concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the First Universalist Church, 160 Pleasant St., Auburn, will aid the fire victims. Tickets are $28.

— A comedy fundraiser will be held at Prose Gallery, 223 Lisbon St., Lewiston, on Saturday, May 11. Two shows, 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. All proceeds will be directed to the fund created by YWCA of Central Maine and Northeast Bank to benefit fire victims. 

— Lewiston Redemption Center will donate 20 percent of all profits made Saturday, May 11. The redemption center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is located at 700 Lisbon St.

Housing

— MaineHousing and other agencies are asking landlords with vacant apartments to post their vacancies for free on MaineHousingSearch.org. MaineHousing also maintains a list of subsidized housing units in Maine.

— New Beginnings services are available for youth affected by the Lewiston fires. Its youth shelter (795-4070) is a 24-hour emergency shelter in a safe, home-like environment for teens and for single young adults up to age 20. Its outreach drop-in center at 245 Lisbon St. in Lewiston (795-6831) serves homeless youth ages 14 to 21 Monday through Friday afternoons, offering a safe place to rest, eat, shower and get basic household and hygiene supplies. Outreach workers assist homeless young adults up to age 24 (including those with young children) with referrals to services and housing. Also, homeless young adults ages 16 to 21 can apply for up to 18 months of housing in Transitional Living Program apartments with services to help them move on to independent living on their own (795-6048).
